Following an eventful year within the rail industry over the course of 2022, we now look forward to further supporting the industry throughout 2023 and beyond.

As a recognised railway employer, enjoying contractual relationships with 13 Transport Operators and employing over 2,000 people to support the country’s critical national infrastructure, the end of 2022 saw Carlisle Support Services appoint Steve Cere as Director of Rail Strategy.

Steve’s appointment comes at a critical and exciting time as the eagerly anticipated introduction of Great British Railways, who will oversee the strategic direction of the industry to deliver outstanding value to the ever-growing number of UK’s rail passengers, remains on the horizon. The Office of Rail and Road reported a total of “1.2 billion journeys made in the year to 30 September 2022, nearly double the 649million made in the previous 12 months.

As demand grows with increased passenger journeys in five of the last six quarters, Steve’s vision is to further develop the company’s comprehensive service offering to the industry. The aim is to deliver sustainable service innovations and operating efficiencies that enable flexible growth and resilience across all facets of the rail industry.

The all-encompassing solution provides operators a one stop shop for all requirements, ensuring optimal performance and national consistency in service delivery. This brings four core pillars at the forefront of tomorrow’s railway infrastructure:

People

Well-recruited and vetted staff, centrally trained with transparent virtual and physical performance management, ensuring clear career progression for optimal results and an overall engaged workforce.

Process

Well-established processes and procedures with monthly KPI reviews, bi-annual best practice sharing sessions and bespoke contract management for optimal flexibility to market changes.

Technology

Providing easy to access real-time workflow management, labour analysis, insights and centralised operational reports for effective communication and strategic direction.

Financial

Delivering a results-based approach with tangible ROI, economies of scale and regular reviews to continually add value and minimise revenue loss from fare evasion.

As we step into 2023, Carlisle Support Services is here to help the UK rail network transition into tomorrow’s force, restoring its reputation as a world class provider of rail passenger transport, as activity heads towards more than doubling by 2050.
