Purpose of the Job: The HSQE & Training advisor is responsible for promoting best practice to ensure related Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental policy is implemented and adhered to, to give guidance and instruction and make relevant information available to all. To actively get involved when required in such projects in his/her areas of responsibility. The training element will involve having the ability to deliver Highfield accredited training mainly in the field of H&S related subjects. Reporting directly to the Head of HSQE you will be responsible for supporting on the implementing of the integrated business management system & internal audit systems, identifying and minimising the risk of accidents to persons, ensure a healthy and engaging relationship with other HSQE team members across the function, maintain an up to date knowledge of legislation and codes of practice applicable to the company's business, carry out assessments that are outside the competence of operational managers and investigation of accidents and incidents and production of statistical information in relation to HSQE performance. Responsibilities: * Promote a culture of improving standards, safety & productivity. * Carrying out risk assessments and considering how risks could be reduced. * Outlining safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards. * Carrying out regular site inspections/audits to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented and adhered to. * Planning practical and effective methods, both preventative and remedial, of promoting 'safe' and operational working practices. * Attending Health & Safety, Quality, Environment (HSQE) Forum meetings and others as required. * Supporting/advising and working closely with managers and operators to try to eliminate conflict between service and safety/environmental considerations. * Making changes to working practices that are safe and comply with legislation and/or procedures. * To devise and deliver Tool Box Talks to managers / employees. * Keeping records of HSQE audits / inspections findings and producing reports suggesting improvements. * Keeping records of incidents and accidents and producing statistics for managers. * Carrying out accident / incident investigations as and when required. * Keeping up to date with new legislation.
2 * Liaising with officials from the regulatory authorities to ensure the organisation is compliant with statutory regulations. * Managing and administering the COSHH database. * Liaising closely with customers and other Health & Safety/HSQE Advisors and Senior Management. * Ensure Area Supervisors / Managers are maintaining personal training records. * Act as mentor to staff, providing information, guidance and Mental Health support. * Assist to mobilise new contract wins in their area(s) of responsibility * Delivery of accredited training sessions in support of the Northern Operational contracts and other regions as and when required by the business. Key Performance Indicators: * Tracking and analysing accident trends and improving performance * To carry-out HSQE audits to an agreed schedule * Delivering audit and other reports within agreed timeframes and suggesting/implementing improvement * To update / review Risk Assessments and Method statements to schedule * Annual Review / updates of HSQE Sector Procedures against Policy / Arrangements in Support of the Head of HSQE Qualifications & Experience: * Be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the UK * NEBOSH Certificate holder or working towards qualification * Level 3 teaching qualification * Internal audit qualification * Mental Health First Aid trained * Full driving licence * Service industry experience, preferably within a Railway environment * Passion for excellent customer service * Proactive - ability to think outside the box * Highly flexible and adaptable * The ability to work flexible hours * Ability to multitask and make sound decisions quickly * Ability to effectively plan your own workload * Experience of working effectively in a team * Evidence and willingness of taking responsibility * Strong level of both verbal and written English communication skills * Excellent IT skills * Problem solving skills
