Carlisle Support Services are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Rail Security Officer to work on our contract with West Midland Trains.

Rate: £12.00 per hour

Location: Birmingham/Wolverhampton (West Midlands Area so must be able to drive)

Shifts: Shift work aligned to railway timetables including earlies, lates and weekend

Hours: 40

Job Role:

The role of the Rail Security Officer is aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour and enforcing by-laws in order to create a safe environment for rail users and employees. This will be achieved by providing a highly visible security and safety presence across the network.

The post-holder is required to be confident, firm, assertive, empathetic, and polite when dealing with difficult individuals, proactive and not afraid to get involved to support rail users and staff when situations have the potential to escalate. The overarching responsibility will be to ensure a safe environment.

Key Accountabilities:

  • To comply with and enforce all Byelaw Enforcement initiatives in accordance with local instructions.
  • To respond, manage and contain all security incidents in accordance with company expectations and standards.
  • To proactively deliver an excellent standard of customer service by offering support or assistance to all passengers, underpinned by an empathetic approach, with particular regard to vulnerable passengers.
  • To safeguard all vulnerable passengers in alignment with local guidelines
  • To have an excellent level of communication and a good command of the English language as you will be interacting with passengers on a daily basis.
  • To write accurate incident reports which could be used in court therefore excellent written English is needed.
  • Excellent at conflict management and able to diffuse situations appropriately.
  • To report anti-social behaviour at stations, in accordance with the company policy and Railway Byelaws,whilst maintaining train service performance.
  • To champion safety, highlighting any areas of concern and ensuring safe working practices are adhered to by proactive intervention to prevent unsafe actions.
  • To prevent unauthorised access to trains and/or stations.
  • To take appropriate action in dealing with and helping to prevent physical and verbal assaults on staff and customers and where appropriate in conjunction with the help of the British Transport Police (BTP)
  • To regard as confidential all information provided for the performance of these duties and ensure this is not disclosed to any parties outside of Carlisle Support Services or West Midlands Trains.
  • To comply with the client & CSS Accident and Incident reporting process.
  • To adhere at all times to the Police and criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE) and deal appropriately and professionally with any individual who refuses to act in accordance with the Railway Byelaws, which could include the removal of such people from premises or trains.
  • To ensure they act in a proactive manner in the performance of their duties and obligations and always keep themselves safe, if necessary, by calling upon the assistance of any other appropriate person or the police in the pursuit of their specified duties.

You must also be:

  • A resident in the UK for a minimum period of 3 years
  • Eligible to work full time in the UK without restrictions. Please also be aware that you will be asked to declare all previous convictions and cautions, including spent convictions and driving offences. ·

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • To hold a valid frontline SIA Licence (Door Supervisor or Security Guard)
  • Able to provide a 5 year work history
  • First Aid at Work certificate
  • Railway Safety Accreditation Scheme (RSAS) training PASS (or working towards this)
