Fashioning sales growth for F&F

F&F is a clothing and accessories brand from multinational grocery and general merchandise retailer, Tesco.

Offering quality clothing ranges at reasonable prices, F&F is sold in nearly 2,000 stores across 15 countries, representing a core part of Tesco’s growth strategy.

Carlisle Retail has been working with F&F since 2013.

In order to continue providing the best possible service to its customers, Tesco was having to move staff from specific sections to other areas of the store, such as deliveries and checkouts. At the same time though, it was keen to maximise sales of its F&F brand. Simply hiring more staff would have proved too costly, Tesco needed a slightly different solution.

Carlisle provided a pool of 500 dedicated clothing merchandisers across the UK stores to focus entirely on increasing clothing sales, supporting the retailer’s own teams. Our solution included:

  • A flexible pool of staff with retail experience and an understanding of clothing merchandising
  • Comprehensive training guides on core activities and product lines, and a thorough induction and training process for staff on their first shift
  • Regional management support to provide additional merchandising expertise as and when needed
  • Introduction of Timegate, Carlisle’s electronic time and attendance system, to provide daily attendance updates

  • Increased core line availability in peak trading periods
  • The ability to adjust staffing levels to deal with peak trading periods and meet diverse shift patterns, often 4-6 hours overnight, without increasing staffing costs
  •  A sound infrastructure for Carlisle to deliver similar services to other retailers in the future
