Carlisle is proud to announce its official commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This global collaboration – formed by CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute, and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), supports businesses in setting ambitious emissions reduction targets grounded in climate science, in line with the latest climate research and aligned with the goals of the Paris Agreement. Since its launch in 2015, the SBTi has guided businesses worldwide to take meaningful action on climate change.
The SBTi plays a critical role in global climate efforts by providing a common, science-backed framework for corporate action. It bridges the gap between private-sector ambition and international climate targets, providing companies with a verified, transparent pathway to decarbonisation. Through this framework businesses, investors, and policymakers are brought together to move beyond intention, turn commitments into measurable and accountable progress.
At Carlisle, this initiative is being driven by Andrew Flannagan, Director of HSQE, and Rachel Marsden, Head of Sustainability and Social Value, reflecting our cross-functional approach to embedding sustainability across every part of our organisation. Together, they are guiding the business through the SBTi process, which includes quantifying our current carbon footprint, identifying the most significant emission sources, and using SBTi methodologies to develop credible and science-aligned reduction targets.
We are now in the target development phase and aligning our approach with the principles of ISO 14064 to ensure accuracy, transparency, and third-party verification. This stage will result in validated targets covering our direct operational emissions (Scope 1 and 2) as well as emissions across value chain (Scope 3). Once validated by the SBTi, these targets will form the foundation of Carlisle’s long-term decarbonisation strategy, setting clear milestones for contributing to the global goal of limiting temperature rise to 1.5°C.
Our commitment to SBTi is not a standalone initiative, it forms a part of a broader transformation in how we think about our role as a service provider and employer. By aligning with SBTi, we strengthen our ability to support clients on their own carbon reduction journeys, providing transparency and data-driven insights that add value throughout the supply chain. As more of our clients set their own science-based targets, Carlisle’s verified commitment positions us as a trusted partner in meeting sustainability expectations and compliance requirements.
Beyond the environmental impact, this process also drives innovation, operational efficiency, and long-term resilience. It enables us to identify where change will have the greatest effect – whether through energy use, fleet efficiency, procurement decisions, or employee engagement. These improvements not only reduce emissions but also create value for our people, clients, and stakeholders.
Our commitment to the SBTi represents more than an environmental goal; it’s a step toward genuine accountability and shared progress. By aligning our strategy with the best available science, we are contributing to a more sustainable, equitable, and responsible future for our people, our partners, and the communities we serve.
