In this exclusive conversation with Paul Evans, CEO of Carlisle Support Services, he reflects on the lessons, challenges, and defining moments of a decade shaped by purpose, a decade that balanced progress with humility, innovation with empathy, and growth with a deep sense of soul.
From a young boy locking and unlocking buildings to the CEO of The Company of the Year 2025, Paul’s leadership has remained grounded in experience and driven by people. His journey began on the frontline, witnessing first-hand what hard work truly demands. He rose steadily through the ranks, always placing those around him at the heart of every decision.
Paul joined Carlisle during one of the most uncertain chapters in its history, when turnover had fallen to £30 million. Instead of walking away, he chose to rebuild by rolling up his sleeves and helping transform a struggling organisation into the thriving, values-led business it is today.
“Leadership is about showing up, being visible, and never asking anyone to do what you wouldn’t do yourself,” Paul says.
Under his guidance, Carlisle has grown from 1,600 employees to more than 6,000 “family members.” Staff turnover is among the lowest in the industry, and client retention stands at an exceptional 98.5%. The business has pioneered initiatives such as the Innovation Lab, Challenge Innovation, Subcontractor Removal, and early adoption of the Real Living Wage – raising standards across the sector and strengthening Carlisle’s people-first foundation.
“Look after your people, and they’ll drive the business forward – not just for profit, but for purpose.”
