Security Officer Mohsin Khan, from our Southwark Council and IQ Student Living contracts, was awarded the prestigious Security Officer of the Year award at The Security & Fire Awards for Excellence (SFE) on Monday, 1st December 2025.
As the second year that this category has existed, we are overjoyed that Mohsin has carried the torch on from Gio Ortega, who won the award last year in its inaugural year. Building on last year’s success, this category now features an impressive prize, with the winner receiving £1,500 and the runner-up £500.
As a highly coveted industry award, Mohsin’s success showcases that the industry recognises the dedication, professionalism and composure that he demonstrated when dealing with a sensitive situation, where a young child was in danger.
During a recent patrol, Mohsin witnessed a distressed young teen attempting to jump from a 7th-floor window to escape his mother, whom he was shouting was attempting to harm him. Without hesitation, Mohsin contacted the emergency services and engaged the boy from outside to calm and reassure him that help was on the way. Rushing to the flat in question, Mohsin was able to de-escalate the situation and intervene just in time to ensure the boy’s safety. Despite the mother’s reluctance to allow the child to exit, the boy ran towards Mohsin, who ensured his safety, secured the window, and stayed with the child until police arrived minutes later, followed by social services. His quick thinking helped ensure the young boy’s safety, potentially saved a life and prevented a tragic incident.
Alongside his life-saving scenario, Mohsin has excelled in three critical incidents among many others: calmly coordinating the evacuation of over 350 residents during a gas leak, bravely confronting and aiding in the arrest of a thief, and heroically saving a distressed teenager from a seventh-floor window. His proactive uptake of our workforce management system, training of recruits, and data-driven improvements have cut theft by 80% and strengthened site safety. Mohsin’s courage, professionalism, and compassion set the gold standard in security.
Mohsin’s commitment to his clients is unparalleled, evidenced by each of the critical incidents mentioned in this nomination outline, his reliability, strong work ethic, commitment to safety, and genuine compassion, all of which make him incredibly deserving of the Security Officer of the Year Award.
Mohsin was joined at the awards ceremony by other incredible colleagues and nominees, such as Shaun Maudsley from our Alder Hey Security team, who was commended within the same category, and Tesco Security finalist, Karl Westerholm. Joining them also were our Security Manager of the Year finalists, Fahad Amir (Great Ormond Street Hospital), Riaz Ismail (IQ Student Living) and Robin Gormley (Camden Council), as well as our Southbank Centre Security and Events Teams, who were finalists within the Security Project of the Year for Operation Bluebell. At a company level, we were also proud to be finalists within the Industry Choice Security Guarding Company and Security Guarding Company of the Year over £35m categories. These notable nominations evidence the work behind the scenes of our support teams to build a robust operation.
