On Thursday 27th June, CEO, Paul Evans, Managing Director for Security and Events South, Simon Pratt, Head of Operations for Cleaning and FM, David Evans, and Northern Trains Contract Manager, Matthew Greenwood, took part in Railway Children‘s Three Peaks Challenge by Rail to raise money for Railway Children in their mission to help children who find themselves vulnerable and alone on stations and streets around the UK, India, and Tanzania.
This event saw our team climb the three highest peaks of England, Scotland, and Wales (Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis, and Snowdon) for a total ascent of 3064 metres (10,052ft) and a total walking distance of over 37km. Starting at 7:30 pm on Thursday, the team tackled Snowden, then just over twelve hours later, they went on to climb their second peak, Scafell Pike, before they confronted their final mountain, Ben Nevis, just nine hours later.
After 42 hours of travelling, walking, and resting within their train compartment, the team successfully completed the challenge, having navigated various weather conditions, encountering high winds, rain, extreme heat, and hail while ascending Mount Snowdon in Wales.
Throughout the experience, the team maintained their enthusiasm, going on to receive the top fundraiser award during the challenge. This distinguished accolade was presented to them onboard the train for raising over £7,700 in support of this remarkable cause.
