Carlisle Support Services is proud to participate in this summer’s Short Tail Trail which kicked off in Luton in July. With 90 Hares and Tortoises descending on Luton town, the sculptures form three art trails for the community to get out and explore for free.
As a Wild in Art Event, the sculptures are part of a fundraising effort for Keech Hospice Care which relies upon local community funding and support to keep up its outstanding service. For 8 weeks, families and friends can take their time to visit the trails before the large sculptures are auctioned off on Thursday 3rd October 2024 to raise vital funds for Keech Hospice Care.
With 30 large sculptures sponsored by local Luton businesses and each small sculpture adopted by local schools, community and college groups, this trail embodies the Luton spirit and community each step of the way which we are overjoyed to participate in.
As a sponsor of this event, we are excited to present our expertly designed and painted Hare Wonderland by Loïs Cordelia. Combining inspiration from Luton’s hat-making origins and Alice in Wonderland, Lois has created a stunning design to catch your eye on the trail.
The story of our Hare, Wonderland, began in January at the Design Selection event where we were given the difficult choice of picking a design from over 70 options. After selecting and receiving our first choice, Wonderland, our artist Lois began work on the sculpture in mid-April in her Norwich-based studio, managing the impressive feat of completing it in under a week. Securely wrapped up, the Hare was packed up and sent to the Painting Space to be looked after until the start of the trail. With the trail opening on 7th July, our team were invited to the pre-trail event held earlier that week at Luton Mall where all of the sponsors could mingle and see all of the completed sculptures before they were packed off to their new homes for the next 8 weeks.
If you’d like to enjoy art during a nice sunny day in support of Keech Hospice Care, hop down to Luton to join the trail and find out more about the sculptures on display. By downloading the Short Tail Trail app, you can also scan the sculptures to collect stamps and unlock rewards. Our Wonderland-themed hare offers visitors the opportunity to win an amazing 90-minute guided tour experience of the wild animal reserves in a VIP Land Rover at Woburn Safari Park.
