Carlisle is proud to announce the appointment of Rachel Marsden as its new Head of Sustainability and Social Value, marking a significant step forward in the company’s commitment to delivering meaningful impact for clients, communities, and colleagues alike.
Bringing global experience and a people-first mindset, Rachel joins Carlisle with a strong record in developing sustainability strategies, managing carbon reduction initiatives and leading stakeholder focused programmes that drive lasting value across sectors.
In her new role, she will lead Carlisle’s evolving Social Value Strategy, ensuring sustainability is embedded in day-to-day operations across all contracts and regions. Working closely with Andrew Flannagan, Health and Safety Director at Carlisle and the wider senior leadership team, she will focus on strategic planning, effective delivery and robust impact measurement to maximise social value.
“My role is about connecting the dots between sustainability and operational excellence,” Rachel says. “That means understanding the people, the contracts, and the communities we serve to identify shared solutions that deliver real impact to the communities and environment.”
Her career has been very conventional. From advising on energy efficiency in disadvantaged communities to leading sustainability for a hygiene services provider, her work has consistently centred on practical, inclusive solutions that improve lives. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master’s in Business Management and Sustainability – a combination that reflects her ability to bring out the psychological aspect while managing different projects.
“Sustainability isn’t one-size-fits-all. This is about partnership,” she mentions. “We need to understand what truly matters to our stakeholders and build solutions that are practical, inclusive, and long-lasting.”
Carlisle’s decision to bring Rachel on board reflects a broader commitment to rethinking service delivery and amplifying the company’s value-driven approach. Her international perspective and multidisciplinary background make her ideally suited to help lead this transformation. Her goal is to move beyond surface-level ESG targets and co-create strategies that reflect local priorities.
When not immersed in ESG, Rachel can usually be found with a book in hand, cooking something new in the kitchen, or exploring her surroundings with a growing love for pickleball, adding a touch of play to her weekends.
