For the thirteenth year, the Women in Security Awards took place in September, providing an opportunity for the Security Industry to recognise the outstanding women driving progress in the industry, changing the landscape of security and protecting lives. Taking place at Shakespeare’s Underglobe set on the river Thames, the Women in Security Awards is a night of glitz and glamour which shines a light on those shaping the industry through action.
This year’s awards were hosted by Carlisle friend, Figen Murray OBE, who campaigned tirelessly for six years to create safer counter terrorism legislation after the death of her son Martyn in the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017. After spearheading the campaign, in April 2025, Martyn’s Law received royal Assent.
On the night, Carlisle was privileged to have three outstanding members of staff as finalists for the event across two categories. Within the Security Manager category, we were overjoyed to see two of our managers recognised as finalists for their impact and contribution to the industry, Ruth Ripley, Event Security Manager for the Southbank Centre, and Operations Manager for Arriva Rail London Gateline contract, Louise Harrison. Their contribution and commitment to creating opportunities for Women in the industry, alongside acting as mentors, will help to increase visibility of women in the field.
Within the Frontline category, we are overjoyed to announce the award of the Frontline Security Officer of the Year Award to Southbank Events Security Supervisor, Ingrid Lucas. Nominated by her manager, Ruth Ripley, Ruth’s nomination highlighted the impact that Ingrid has had within the security industry, offering mentorship to her peers, participating in community initiatives and debates, alongside raising standards for those in her team. Highlighted within the nomination, Ingrid has received commendations from Counter Terrorism Security Advisors and personal security teams who have supported high-profile guests such as Yulia Navalnaya, Greta Thunberg and Salman Rushdie, which emphasises her professionalism and ability to stay calm under pressure when dealing with high-profile guests. Beyond her role, Ingrid takes the time to be present for her team, making time for them in sickness and in health. Even if they just need to speak to someone, she will check in on them even when dealing with her own heavy workload alongside grandma duties. Her commitment to her team is unwavering, and in Ruth’s own words, she is “the soul of our team”.
With Ingrid’s win, and Ruth and Louise as finalists, we are overjoyed to see our Women in Security committee being recognised for championing women across the business and industry. Congratulations to Louise and Ruth for their nominations, and to our winner, Ingrid, for their outstanding commitment to excellence.
