In the healthcare environment, security officers play a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure atmosphere for patients, staff, and visitors. As the sector continues to change and adapt, frequent training is essential to equip security professionals with the knowledge and skills to respond effectively to emergencies, de-escalate conflicts, and protect the well-being of everyone in the facility.
Carlisle Support Services is proud to have delivered healthcare security-tailored training in Managing Violence and Aggression to 89 members of staff across five hospital trusts.
Delivered with the support of our NHS clients at Great Ormond Street Hospital, East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, Walsall Manor Hospital, and The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, the training was aimed at helping Security Officers build confidence and enhance the way they respond, communicate and defuse threatening situations in a safe and effective manner.
Over the two-day course, our Security Officers have gone through various de-escalating scenarios to help manage troubling behaviour within their trust, providing them with best practices on how to deal with difficult situations within their working days.
The key takeaways from the course have taught them how to:
- Better support those in front-line roles to uphold the highest standards
- Recognise and respond to incidents
- Help people to feel safer and more positive in the workplace
- Reduce risks for staff members, patients and visitors
- De-escalate and escape from an aggressive situation
- Hold and relocate using accredited techniques
- Understand the legal and medical implications of restraint
- Competently report and debrief an incident.
By completing this training course, the team will be able to recognise the signs of challenging behaviour and de-escalate using excellent communication; they can then further demonstrate safe tactical skills to minimise risk as well as hold and relocate service users to maintain safety whilst understanding the legal and moral position that they are held to.
By providing our teams with the right tools to complete their roles, they are empowered to make decisions that they know are the right course of action, helping them to safeguard visitors, staff members and patients from harm.
