Carlisle Support Services has proudly kicked off Good Employment Week 2026 by receiving its Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter Full Member certificate in person from the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Bev Craig, at the official launch event held in Manchester. The presentation marked an important milestone in Carlisle’s people-first journey and recognised the organisation’s commitment to creating positive, supportive and inclusive workplaces across its workforce.
The event brought together Charter Members, partners and employers from across the region to celebrate organisations leading the way in good employment and to launch a week dedicated to sharing best practice, championing workplace culture and encouraging employers to reflect on what good work feels like for their people. This year’s Good Employment Week theme asks a simple but powerful question: “What does your work feel like?”
For Carlisle, the occasion carried special significance. Only weeks after being awarded Full Member status of the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter, the business was formally recognised at the launch event by Mayor Bev Craig, alongside other organisations that have demonstrated sustained commitment to good employment practices.
Carlisle’s achievement follows several years as a Charter Supporter and reflects extensive work to review policies, strengthen colleague engagement and embed best practice across the business. The Charter assesses employers against seven key characteristics of good employment, including secure work, flexible work, pay, engagement and voice, recruitment, people management, and health and wellbeing, with equality, diversity and inclusion underpinning every area.
Receiving Full Membership status reinforces Carlisle’s long-standing belief that its people are its greatest strength. Over recent years, the organisation has continued to invest in colleague wellbeing, career development and inclusive employment practices, ensuring that its commitment to putting people first is reflected throughout its operations.
The recognition is particularly significant in Greater Manchester, a region that remains strategically important to Carlisle and one where the business continues to see significant opportunities for growth. As the company expands its presence across the North, maintaining a strong commitment to good employment will remain central to its approach, helping to attract, develop and retain talented people while delivering exceptional service for clients and communities.
Speaking about the achievement following the announcement of Carlisle’s Membership, CEO Paul Evans described it as the result of sustained investment in people and a determination to ensure colleagues remain at the heart of every decision the business makes. The organisation views Membership not as an end point, but as an ongoing commitment to listen, learn and continuously improve.
Following the presentation, Rachel Marsden, Head of Social Value and Sustainability at Carlisle, said:
“Receiving Carlisle’s Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter membership plaque today was a proud moment. It recognises the work taking place across our business to support our colleagues, recognising that good employment shapes people’s livelihoods, their security and their ability to plan for the future. I left today encouraged by the speakers and discussions, and looking forward to working with the Charter network to share ideas, learn from other employers and build on this progress.”
As Good Employment Week gets underway, Carlisle is proud to stand alongside other employers helping to raise employment standards across Greater Manchester. The presentation of the Full Member certificate by Mayor Bev Craig was a fitting way to begin a week dedicated to celebrating good work, good workplaces and the positive impact that investing in people can have on businesses, employees and communities alike.
