Carlisle Marks International Security Officers’ Day 2026 with Celebrations Honouring Frontline Heroes

There is an unseen heartbeat to modern life, a steady, clockwork rhythm that hums along while most of the world sleeps, travels, or goes about its day without a second thought.

At 3:00 AM, when city streets are quiet, security officers are awake! They stand at the threshold of critical infrastructure, patrol transport networks, safeguard healthcare settings, protect retail hubs, and maintain vigilance over spaces where thousands will soon gather. Ours is an industry that never switches off. 24 hours a day and 365 days a year, our frontline teams provide the essential backbone of public safety, confidence, and care.

When you see a security officer, their presence signals something simple yet profound –  you are safe!

On 24th July, International Security Officers’ Day, we come together to celebrate and honour our frontline workforce. Carlisle holds their dedication and compassion in the highest regard every single day of the year.

Security is an active commitment to protecting human life and supporting local communities. Across our contracts, Carlisle officers consistently demonstrate the rare ability to pivot from compassionate care to decisive action in moments of acute crisis.

When a fire broke out at the Blackpool Tesco Express, it was the swift instincts and immediate intervention of Carlisle security officer, Jonathan, that prevented catastrophe. Spotting the danger instantly, he tackled the flames before they could spread across the store. As the Store Manager noted, “the entire business could have been lost without Jonathan’s fast, courageous response.”

That same life-saving bravery was mirrored in Springhill, West Midlands, when officer Jouman Salman faced a traumatic medical emergency. A customer collapsed and stopped breathing, and Jouman immediately stepped forward to contact emergency services and perform chest compressions until the gentleman resumed breathing.

In healthcare settings, where vulnerability and high risks meet, officer Naomi exemplifies the pinnacle of frontline restraint and selflessness. When faced with a sudden, unprovoked attack from a distressed patient in an NHS Trust, Naomi safely immobilised the threat, called a Code Red, and instructed medical staff to exit the room, absorbing the physical risk herself to protect NHS staff members.

Meanwhile, across the UK rail network, officer Karen demonstrated clinical-grade composure when a passenger suffered a catastrophic injury on the tracks. Karen responded instantly under intense trauma conditions, applying a tourniquet to preserve the woman’s life before emergency services arrived. Each of these extraordinary acts speaks to a culture of care that defines our workforce every day.

This culture of empathy and operational excellence flows directly from leadership, as many of those who guide Carlisle today started their journeys in the exact same uniform. “Starting my career as a Security Officer over 20 years ago gave me a real appreciation for what the role demands,” reflects Sham Hussain, Head of Operations (North).

“I know the long hours, the challenges, and the responsibility that come with keeping people, places, and businesses safe. That’s why International Security Officers Day means so much to me. Much of your work happens behind the scenes and often goes unnoticed, but the difference you make every single day is invaluable.”

That shared frontline perspective extends across our contracts management team, including Peter O’Hare, Security Contract Manager in the rail sector, who brought the discipline and accountability of his military background into his 15-year security career.

“Having served on the frontline in the British Army and now leading specialist security teams in the railway sector, I know exactly what it takes to stand firm under pressure,” says Peter O’Hare.

“Security Officers are the first line of defence: visible, accountable, and often the only barrier between danger and the public. Their actions save lives, prevent harm, and keep our infrastructure moving. On International Security Officers Day, I want to recognise that courage and professionalism.”

Walk through any venue, court, or transport hub where Carlisle operates, and you will find standards defined by visible pride and ambassadorial warmth.

“For me, it is our people that make the difference,” Simon Pratt, Managing Director for Security and Events (South), shares. “Every time I am out and about, I see our officers stand immaculately presented as ambassadors for Carlisle.”

When you give people the right education, uniform, training, and support to go and be brilliant, 99.9% of the time they do just that. It makes me deeply proud to be their leader.”

“It is the Carlisle team on the ground whose empathy, proactive engagement, and genuine care guide public through a stressful situation with total professionalism.”

As Adrian White, Chief Operating Officer, highlights, the presence of a professional security team actively creates the confidence that allows communities and businesses to thrive.

“Security officers give people confidence when they are around, when people see security officers, they know it is safe!,” Adrian White notes.

“It is an industry that never switches off; it is 24/7, 365 days a year. While 99% of the general public go home, our officers are there at 3:00 AM holding the line. I believe we should not just celebrate them on one day; we celebrate them every single day, giving this vital industry and our frontline teams the immense recognition they deserve.”

Vinny Singh, our Managing Director for Security and Events (South), echoes this heartfelt gratitude across the entire business.

“I want to take a moment to recognise and thank every one of our security officers for the incredible work you do each and every day,” states Vinny Singh.

“Security a personal commitment to protecting people, safeguarding places, and providing reassurance when it matters most. At Carlisle, our people are our greatest strength. Your hard work often goes unseen, but it is always appreciated and never taken for granted.”

That deep-rooted culture of care received the ultimate industry salute at The City Security Council Awards, coinciding perfectly with International Security Officers’ Day. As applause swept the room, six Carlisle honours shone a brilliant national spotlight on the heart of our operations.

From individual brilliance of Nicola Brown (Rising Star in Growth and Development), Dave Sweeney (Best Frontline Supervisor), Gemma Richardson (Most Consistent Officer), and Mark Kershaw (Highly Commended, Resilience and Reliability), to collective excellence from the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and Charity Security Team (Best Frontline Team) and the Metrolink Travel Safe Officers (Customer Service Excellence), these awards provides a standing ovation for the everyday heroes who make our world safer, every single shift.

To every security officer patrolling a quiet platform in the cold, tackling emergencies in local stores, safeguarding healthcare staff, managing complex crowd flows at major venues, or stepping forward in moments of acute medical crisis: we see you, we value you, and we stand behind you!

Happy International Security Officers’ Day to our teams across Carlisle Support Services, and to security professionals worldwide. Thank you for your courage and everything you do to keep our world safe today and every day.
