Every year International Security Officer Day on July 24 gives us a meaningful opportunity to shine a light on the dedication, professionalism, and strength of real-life heroes who keep people and public spaces safe. As a people-first organisation, Carlisle Support Services remains committed to supporting and recognising the value of security personnel.
More Than a Uniform
Security officers are often the first to arrive and the last ones to leave. From public spaces and transport networks to hospitals and event venues, they deliver critical services that often go unseen but are always essential. The role of a security officer is far beyond being present but lies in reassurance, protecting the vulnerable, and helping others feel safe in their everyday lives. They are listeners, responders, problem solvers and often gives a calming presence during uncertain moments.

The Challenges They Face
It is not easy; security officers often operate under pressure in unpredictable environments and sometimes face aggression simply by doing their jobs. Long hours, overnight shifts, unpredictable weather, and the emotional weight of remaining calm in high-stress situations are just a few of the everyday realities. As an industry, there is more to do in raising awareness, driving professional respect, and ensuring every officer feels supported and valued.
Carlisle’s Commitment
Carlisle is fully committed to fulfilling its promise. This includes providing meaningful training, promoting wellbeing, and ensuring that all staff feel seen, heard, and supported in their roles. A culture of respect, care and appreciation continues to drive the way Carlisle engages with its workforce.
This commitment was echoed by CEO Paul Evans, who attended the City Security Council event in Manchester to speak about the role security officers play and highlight his personal experiences. He later joined the IPSA gathering where he reflected on how the work of security officers hold the power to change lives.
He emphasised that although the industry may at times face unfair criticism, there are countless untold stories of impact from saving lives to protecting assets and enhancing everyday experiences. He thanked and appreciated more than 500,000 security professionals across the UK for being amazing.
Each One of Them Matters
This day is not only about celebrating a profession but about recognising the real-life heroes. Individuals with stories, with families, and with a deep sense of purpose. Every officer plays a vital part in creating safer places. Every contribution, no matter how visible, carries a long-lasting impact. Carlisle sees its people and values every single one.
Proud to be People-First
People-first culture means to not just recognise great service, but support, invest in, and stand beside those who deliver it. Whether someone is new to the industry or has spent decades in the field, the company is proud of how they represent Carlisle’s values to different communities. Their commitment is the reason Carlisle is trusted to deliver safe and secure environments across UK.
A Heartfelt Thanks
To all the security professionals across the UK and beyond, we appreciate you! Your presence matters. Your work matters. And your impact is felt more than you may ever know today and always.
